Hi I’m Jen! I’m a 30-something Mummy of two young boys, constant companion to Mr T, public sector worker and serial houseplant buyer.
We moved into our three bedroom Victorian end terrace in late 2015 having fallen in love with its original fireplaces, high ceilings, tall skirting boards and stripped wooden floors. It had previously been rented so the bathroom and kitchen were both dubious but it had potential………those famous last words.
Soon after moving in our second little boy arrived (early) so other than the living room, which we’d managed to decorate right away, the house was put on hold whilst we settled into parenthood for a second time. During my maternity leave I decided to start my Instagram account @the_house_that_jen_built as a way of sharing my love of interiors with other like minded people and gathering inspiration for our new home along the way. Having started with a few dubious pictures of my bedroom mirror and my latest newly acquired (and most certainly now deceased) succulent my little account has grown and grown organically and I like to think my content has improved slightly too!
My home is an eclectic mix of light and dark, traditional and modern and is nearly entirely furnished with readily available and affordable items – I did say I worked in the public sector remember! This blog is really just an extension of my Instagram account, featuring everything from full room makeovers, DIY projects to product reviews and maybe a little lifestyle thrown in here and there.
Welcome to my home and thank you for stopping by!
